Six Month Smiles
What are Six Month Smiles?
Six Month Smiles falls under the category of fixed braces and is a discreet orthodontic braces system that focuses on straightening only the front 6 to 8 teeth (i.e. only the teeth that show when you smile). This means the treatment is much faster than conventional orthodontics, which focuses on all of your teeth. Six Month Smiles can be used to treat crooked teeth, misalignment, unsightly gaps, or a misplaced midline. As the name suggests, Six Month Smiles is a quick procedure, with most results achieved in 6-9 months. The cost of Six Month Smiles is generally less expensive than traditional braces and varies depending on your specific treatment goals and location.
The Six Month Smiles consultation:
The first step is to book an appointment with the office for a consultation. During your initial consultation, the dentist will examine your mouth and may take some photographs and X-rays. The dentist will discuss the likely outcomes, timescales and possible problems you may experience during the treatment. During this visit, you will have the opportunity to ask any questions that you may have and discuss the costs of your Six Month Smiles treatment.
Fitting your Six Month Smile brackets:
If you decide to go ahead with the proposed treatment plan, an impression of your teeth will be taken. Based on this, the laboratory will fabricate a template/guide for the dentist to position the brackets and wires in the precise location on each tooth. The dentist will be able to place the brackets immediately without the need for a custom template from the laboratory. This could speed up the treatment time as a laboratory process can take up to 4 weeks in some cases.
Is a Six-Month Smile for you?
Six Month Smiles isn't for everyone. Six Month Smiles is marketed as an adult product, emphasizing that this orthodontic treatment is available only for patients age 15 and over. Six-month smile treatment may also not be suitable for those who suffer from an overbite, under bite or crossbite. Teeth that are crooked or crowded in the back of your mouth may require additional orthodontic appliances, which may lengthen treatment time. And like any type of dental braces, you will still need to wear an orthodontic retainer to maintain your smile. If your teeth are crooked or crowded in the front of your mouth, Six Month Smiles may be an excellent solution.
